The signing table for 11 athletes was set up in the MPR to honor and congratulate those accepting serious college offers. These eleven students are the first to participate in a new “Life After Lugo: Sports Edition” tradition for Lugo. “This was a very exciting moment for all of us kids, especially in front of loved ones,” expressed Brandi Machado.

The Don Lugo athletic department hosted the first annual “Life After Lugo: Sports Edition”. The event consisted of Lugo alumni speakers talking about their college and athletic experiences to the seniors of Lugo who have committed to their future colleges. Athletic Director, James Donoho, conducted and created this “sequel” to Lugo’s traditional “Life After Lugo” event, in favor of Lugo’s athletes.

Lugo congratulated the committed seniors alongside family and friends who were invited to witness the seniors commitments. “Chad Cordero was my favorite speaker from today! Everything was so good and really valuable advice to take from,” states one of the Concordia University commit, Joshua Ibarra. The Lugo alumnus’ exclusive session of how they made their athletic careers into the pro-leagues was a unique benefit to current seniors; one they would have never received without an event like this.

During the ceremony, each Lugo athlete was introduced along with the the announcement of what college they have committed to. “I’m truly grateful for everything that Lugo has done for me, and I can’t wait for what awaits me in Nebraska,” expresses the committed softball player, Sarah Aispuro. Towards the end, all the athletes signed together as they ended the ceremony.
