Night Swim Review

Opening title screen for the 2024 film Night Swim.

The movie “Night Swim” , a PG-13 horror film was recently released in theaters on January 5th of 2024. The horror film was produced by James Wan and Jason Blum, who are best known for their recently produced movie M3GAN. The movie starts off very lightheartedly, showing a family of four who recently moved to a new house with a pool to get a break from the father’s hit baseball career. The father, Ray Waller hopes the pool will provide physical therapy for his degenerative illness, but this pool is being haunted by some other worldly creature.

The movie has some tense moments, but all of the “jumpscares” were very predictable and easily anticipated by the audience. It almost has the same mood as the producers’ latest movie M3GAN. The CGI of this movie was not too great for the gruesome monster that haunted the pool though. Personally, I think the CGI should’ve been taken out of the movie and replaced with practical effects altogether because I feel like it’s more personal and realistic to the audience because you can tell it took effort, time, and patience and getting that respect can be critical to the movie.

Based on Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 43% with a two star rating out of five, but there have definitely been more lackluster movies this year than Night Swim. In summary, I do not recommend that you watch this movie unless you want your own experience with it.
