This past Saturday the Don Lugo cheer team went to their first competition of the season. The girls worked extremely hard to make sure their routine was competition ready. Cheer captain Sarah Wiseman, says, “as a team we all did very well but there is always room for improvement.”

The  Don Lugo Cheer Team went to their first competition of their season February 18th and they ended up placing 2nd. The competition was held at Norco High School and was hosted by SHARP, there the girls competed their routine against six other high schools. The team prepared for this competition by continuing to attend daily after school practices as well as Saturday practices.

The team’s performance placed them into the Advanced Category which they won a 2nd place trophy for, along with the Sportsmanship Award for being a team who exemplifies what it means to be great spirit-leaders. The stunt group which include Sarah Wiseman (left base), Britney Ruiz (right base), Emily Wiseman (backspot) and Valarie Vargas (flyer), were selected to compete in an individual competition for stunts and ended up placing 2nd out of 15 other stunt groups. With their “amazing” performance this past weekend the girls are now given the opportunity to compete at 6 Flags or Las Vegas and Don Lugo could not be any more proud of the hard work, dedication, and passion that their cheerleaders put forth for their school and their team.

Upon arrival to the competition the team tailgated in the parking lot, which allowed them to bond with the other schools, they had some fun dancing, laughing ,and just simply enjoying the moment at hand. After having a little fun, the team began warming-up by preforming a “stunt sequence” that was part of their routine. With only 5 minutes to warm-up the girls knew they had to focus and give it all they had, when it came time to perform the team made an effort to show everyone how hard they had been working and how strong and resilient a Lugo Cheerleader could be and it paid off.
