A house exploded in a seemingly quiet neighborhood in Chino Hills Sunday afternoon, fire crews responded at 3:44 p.m. to an explosion in the 4200 block of Sierra Vista Drive. Firefighters arrived on scene to find major damage to a home and more damage to neighboring homes.
The explosion produced a powerful shockwave that residents distinctly felt up to 2 miles from the blast zone. The shockwave caused significant damage, shaking and rattling of homes and other structures in surrounding neighborhoods.
The fire department reported that four individuals were transported from the scene to a hospital by emergency services, while four others sought medical attention independently.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said the explosion was likely caused by a gas leak, prompting first responders to evacuate nearby residents of the explosion.
