Movie Review: ‘Split’
January 30, 2017
With the perfect amount of horror and action, “Split ” is definitely a must see movie. The film shows the life of Kevin Wendell Crumb, who has Dissocaive Identity Disorder, meaning that he has mental divisions and is able to manifest unique attributes to each of his multiple personalities, Kevin has exposed 23 different personalities to Dr. Fletcher his psychiatrist, but the 24th, which is the most powerful is still hidden and will soon be able to dominate all the others, his last personality is what he calls “the beast” because it is no longer human. Kevin’s multiple personalities impel him to abduct three teenage girls and it becomes a war for survival for not only the girls but also between his true self and “himself”.
‘Split’ was released in theaters January 20th, 2017 and was able to make $77,385,530.00 at the box office, the director M. Night Shyamalan was able to make an excellent return after his previous work: ‘The Sixth Sense’. James MaAvoy was given the lead role as Kevin and eight other personalities. Throughout the movie the reasoning behind Kevins multiple personalities becomes clear, but the ending of the movie continues to leave you wanting more because “the beast” is now set free without anything holding it back and Kevin is no longer existing because his personalities have taken over the reality.
Rotten Tomatoes gave the movie 6.4 stars out of ten, and says that “Split serves as a dramatic tour de force for James McAvoy in multiple roles — and finds writer-director M. Night Shyamalan returning resoundingly to thrilling form.” Since its release date ‘Split’ has held the number one spot for a second time, beating Oscar nominees. “Universal’s low-cost hit collected an estimated $26.3M slipping only 34% from its incredible opening weekend”, and after a little over a week the movie still continues to draw a crowd in theaters.
