Scholarship Opportunities On the Rise for Seniors

Deadlines Coming Up Fast

Career Center Guidance Technician, Isabel Sherrill, announced ten more scholarship opportunities for this year’s graduating senior class in today’s bulletin.  According to Lugo counselor Ms. Domicoli, “Last year’s graduating class brought in a total of $1,390,792.00 worth of scholarship money, and the graduating class of 2014 brought in a little over two million.”  This year’s seniors will have the same opportunity to continue Lugo’s tradition of scholarship success.

The career center has reported that over 250 scholarships have been announced since January. For seniors to keep the legacy of scholarship success going, they’ll need to start by taking advantage of the scholarship opportunities listed below and follow up on the previous scholarships presented on the Don Lugo Counseling webpage:

  1. California Association of State and Federal Education Programs is offering $1,000; deadline 4/15.
  2. Kedron Veliz-Simon Memorial Scholarship is offering an undisclosed amount; deadline 4/15.
  3. Greenberg & Greenberg Scholarship is offering $2,000; deadline 4/15.
  4. Geneseo Migrant Center is offering an undisclosed amount in a variety of scholarships; deadline 4/15 – 7/1.
  5. Thomas J. Donfrio Education Foundation Scholarship is offering $1,000; deadline 4/19.
  6. Loan Mart/Rancho Cucamonga Quakes Scholarship is offering is offering $1,000; deadline 4/29.
  7. Chino Basin Water Conervation District Education Grant is offering $5,000; deadline 4/30.
  8. Esperanza Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars is offering $500-$6,000; deadline NA.
  9. American Legion Auxiliary Application for Educational Assistance is offering $1,000; deadline 5/1.
  10. Soroptimist International of Chino Valley Scholarship is offering $1,000; deadline is 5/6.

The details and criteria of each scholarship are available in the counseling office, or on the counseling website under “scholarships”. Requirements vary from a weighted 2.2 GPA’s to those who volunteer and serve the community. The counselors will administer a survey at the end of the year where seniors will be able to report the amount of scholarship money they received. The total amount of scholarship money received for the class of 2016 will be announced at the senior rally.
