Valery Spiridonov, who has no actual memory of walking, prepares for a revolutionary surgery. With his upcoming surgery, Valery hopes he will be able to successfully remove his head and place it onto a new body. If successful, this will be a breaking pint in modern day science and medicine.

In the year of 2017, medical technology will reach its peak. 30-year old Valery

Spiridonov was diagnosed with Werdnig-Hoffman disorder, an inborn condition in which

neuromuscular nerves recess over time. However, thanks to Dr. Sergio Canavero, Spiridonov

will have another chance to live in normality.

Spiridonov explains in a “Q&A” session with Motherboard that he has not been able to

walk since the age of one. Even the simple task of getting out of bed every morning is a struggle,

and requires the assistance of his neighbor. Valery will undergo head transplant surgery, which

involves the removal and freezing of his head, which will then be placed onto a newly deceased body.

Valery’s intention for this procedure is to create an opening for scientific technological

advances. When asked if he was worried, he stated, “I’m not worried about anything. Someone

needs to be first. Someone needs to go further where no one has been before.” Hoping upon this

operation’s success, medical science will prove that there are no limitations.
