Every year, Don Lugo seniors who play sports dread the day of playing their last high school game. Sure, there is playoffs to look forward to, but in win or go home games, every game you play is like your last. Its an emotional time, and tears are almost always shed.Marc Ibarra ’15 stated “I didnt think it would end this fast. I play two sports so I just didn’t think it would end this quickly.”
Marc helped lead his team to CIF finals for waterpolo, where they lost in a heart wrenching game. “Okay im not gonna lie I cried, but the whole team did. It was my last game and we ended up losing. It wasn’t a good feeling” Marc also said, “I thought to myself next time but then I was like oh man there isn’t gonna be a next time.”
“There isn’t gonna be a next time” as Marc said, is one of the main reasons why so many seniors feel sad when they leave their sport. The unbreakable bond that occurs with each sport team is ending after only four years. The revenge and redemption wanted will never get to happen again.
Another senior, Zack Medina, stated, “I barley started sports my sophomore year and I wish I could have more time even though I hated practices” Zack also stated, “It was sad though like some of those guys after swim is over and we graduate, I might never see again, or when i do see them it wont be the same anymore you know?”High school sports help people create special bonds and friendships which is why its difficult leaving the sport you love. There is always going to be a longing to play the sport with the people you grew up with in high school.
