A Los Angeles County Sheriffs Deputy was shot and killed while on patrol at a traffic light and a manhunt ensued in Palmdale, CA. The deputy was identified as Ryan Clinkunbroomer. The 8 year veteran with the LASD was a 4th generation deputy, and was killed by Kevin Salazar, 29. The suspect was arrested by the LASD SEB (Special Enforcement Bureau) on Sept 18 at his home in Palmdale, CA. Clinkunbroomer’s handcuffs were used to take the suspect into custody.
The family of Salazar, the suspect, claims he has a mental health challenge and while in court he pleaded Insanity. The insanity plea is a defense strategy used in a criminal case when the perpetrator claims they were not responsible for their actions due to a mental illness. Salazar’s mother stated that he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and has tried to attempted suicide twice and has heard voices. Controversial District Attorney, George Gascon, announced Salazar would receive life in prison without a chance of parole. Gascon also stated if he pursued the death penalty it would not bring Clinkunbroomer back. This comes after Clinkunbroomer was engaged to his fiance four days before the ambush on him. Sheriff Luna made a statement that Clinkunbroomer family put out on the day of his death. The LASD said the family and their department are grieving right now and the the family of Clinkunbroomer is asking for privacy and respect.
On Thursday Oct 5th the Clinkunbroomer family had the services for Clinkunbroomer. The family of Ryan Clinkunbroomer is outraged because George Gascon did not want to pursue the death penalty and the mother and fiance spoke out to multiple other media outlets and claimed to the media that the system has failed them. This is not the first this has happened with George Gascon this happened back in 2022 when they killed two police officers in El Monte, CA.
