Khoury was nominated for athlete of the week last year and unfortunately did not win, but he had an incredible redemption this year with about 9000 votes. The overall number of votes of this year was about around 11000 to 12000. With the help of Don Lugo’s students and alumni, Bethley was best fitted for nomination because of  his hard work and dedication to his team.

SoCal Prep athlete of the week is about recognizing remarkable athletes that reveal incredible talent towards their sport. In response to his victory, Khoury stated, “Thanks to Dr. Cabrera for announcing me to the entire school about voting for me, for this years accomplishment. It was very exciting to see the whole school come together to help me win.” Bethley’s method going into football games is staying focused, working together as a team, and being a role model to his team. Khoury affirms, “Motivating our teammates and seeing them do good on the field is what keeps me going and when somebody makes a good play on the field, I’m there and the rest of the team to congratulate them.”

Last year as a junior, Bethley received a scholarship to the University of Hawaii. Bethley raved, “It’s truly a blessing to be able to go to college for free and get my degree and still play football. I’m really thankful for everything and I’m defintely looking forward to college.”

Without Dr. Cabrera’s help, Bethley wouldn’t have had the support of his school and the alumni of Don Lugo. Dr. Cabrera commented,”Khoury is a very deserving young man, he’s a hard working athlete, and he is also a nice young man. I don’t think he’s one of those typical athletes that thinks he’s better than everybody else so when it comes to any of our athletes representing our school publicly, we want to make sure that we get our name out there because it’s not only good for the athlete but its good for Don Lugo as a whole.”
