Underclassmen get a head start on college credits

Janessa Meza and

Don Lugo freshmen and sophomores are now able to earn college credits early. Beginning in March and continuing on through the summer, 40 students from Don Lugo will begin earning college credit towards their Associate of Arts Degree (AA).

Typically, students don’t begin working on their AA degrees until their first year of college. The lucky few who inquired about the program after hearing about it during the morning announcements are now taking advantage of this unique opportunity. Students had to meet the basic requirement of having a  2.5 GPA or higher and passing Integrated Mathematics 1 with a grade of C or better.

The credit that the students earn for their AA Degree will also give them elective credit for high school. The classes will take place on the Don Lugo campus after school from 3 p.m. to  6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  “The classes the underclassmen will be taking are meant to help them develop skills to be successful and evaluative” explained Assistant Principal, Mrs. Scott.  To find out more information about this program visit Mrs. Scott in the administrative office or see your counselor.
