Don Lugo’s junior starting quarterback, Rudy Garcia, suffered a crucial sprained ankle at last Friday’s game against Rancho Cucamonga along with two other linemen that sustained from injuries to their feet. Sophomore Quarterback for Junior Varsity, Marcos Melendez, was called up to fulfill the starting role for Friday night against Northview on Lugo’s home turf. “It’s a little nerve-racking being a sophomore and starting, but I think I can do it,” says Melendez regarding his new position.

Melendez received countless pointers and was going over the plays with his Quarterback before the big start of the game. The energy was rushing through Marcos when starting in this game, Melendez is still true to his team and awaited for Rudy Garcia to return to claim his rightful place at the quarterback position back for the Milkcan against Chino High.  Melendez said that Garcia had given him words of encouragement for the daring obstacle that he then faced.

Marcos preformed exceptionally well on Friday’s game. Although Lugo lost 35-28, Marcos felt he tried his best during the game. He said,” I think I gave it my best shot but, I am sad we did not come out on top.”
