Speaker of the House Won’t Support Trump
May 5, 2016
Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan publicly announced to CNN that he just “can’t endorse Trump right now”. The leader of the GOP felt compelled to make the statement after Donald Trump became the presumptive nominee for the Republican party. Ryan says his hesitation comes from the nominee’s ability to unite the party, “I don’t want to underplay what he accomplished, he needs to be congratulated for an enormous accomplishment…but he also inherits something that is very special…this is the party of Lincoln, Reagan, of Jack Kemp…we hope our nominee aspires to be Lincoln and Reaganesc.”
Donald Trump plans to respond to Ryan’s comment at a rally in West Virginia but released this statement, “I am not ready to support Speaker Ryan’s agenda. Perhaps in the future we can work together and come to an agreement about what is best for the American people…They have been treated so badly for so long that it’s about time for politicians to put them first!”
CNN reports that, “Ryan’s position makes him the highest-level GOP official to reject Trump.” A big red flag to the Trump campaign that proves not all Republicans are ready to board the Donald Train.
