A Don Lugo sophomore named Hannah Bennett received quite the surprise on Wednesday when an unexpected guest visited her at school. That visitor was none other than her brother, Joey Bennett. The class of 2015 alumni, Joey, had joined the military as a member of the US Air Force which required him to be away from home for 4 months so far.

During those four months, he spent time training in Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi. He shared what his experience has been like so far and the struggles he has learn to overcome. “It’s hard being away even if it was only for four months because not only do I have minimal communication with my family, but I can’t really make friends either when everyone continues to get moved around bases,” explained Joey.

Hannah and Joey are only a year and a half apart, giving them the chance to become almost inseparable. A very emotional Hannah was in shock to see her big brother and stated, “When Dr.Cabrera came in and mentioned my brother, I thought his plane had crashed or something because of the way she brought him up.” Joey also expressed that the four months he was away felt like years to him because of how much he missed her.

The gathering was not only heart-warming for the two siblings, but for everyone in the room as well. Almost everyone who witnessed this was instantly touched by the special moment. Although Joey only has six days in town, Hannah will be enjoying every second of his presence.
