On Thursday, February 25, a student at Cal Aero Preserve Academy brought a loaded .22 caliber handgun to school. The student showed a friend, who then reported it to a teacher. The student who brought the gun claimed he was being bullied.

The Chino Police Department was notified afterschool that day, after the gun had been confiscated. The student’s parents were promptly contacted and interviewd. Lt. Kevin Mensen said that the gun “was not kept in a safe location” at home.

The student, whose age has not yet been made public, told school and police officials that he was being bullied by a peer. He stated that he did not want to use the weapon, and his intention was to scare the bully.

School administration released a statement to parents about the incident online. “In order for Cal Aero Preserve Academy to remain a safe haven for children, we must all work together – parents, staff, and community members – to provide the quality environment that our children deserve.”

Currently both the student and his parents are facing charges.
