On January 19, 2016, dance auditions were held for the Spring Dance Show, and after finishing their first competition, the Dance Team Seniors still made an effort to choreograph their routines.

The pressure was on them to not only choreograph dances that would set the bar high for next year’s show, but to keep up with their studies since auditions fell on the same week as finals. Most of Lugo’s students would agree that they have a hard time studying for their finals, but these dancers take the cake. Every day they wake up at 5 a.m to practice for two hours and then an additional two hours after school.

“I do have to admit, dance is time consuming and so are all my classes, but you kind of just learn how to manage your time around everything,” expresses dance member Esthefany Salazar (’16). For them, their passion for dancing is their secret for dealing with the obstacles that come with being on the Dance Team. First year member Valerie Mendoza (’16) explains, “Even though it’s my first year on the team it’s grown to be a part of my lifestyle. I don’t mind waking up at 5 in the morning to dance with such a great team.”
