On Monday, November 30 a Chino police officer was involved in a crash on Central Avenue near the 60 freeway off-ramp.

The accident occurred just after 2pm when the officer, who was on a motorcycle, collided with a pickup truck. Central Avenue was shut down from Columbus Street to Philadelphia Avenue, as was the freeway off-ramp, until about 8pm. “The traffic [was] bad all the way from Riverside [Drive],” said Audra Merced, a driver passing through Chino.

The officer was airlifted to a hospital soon after. He was described as responsive and conscious but in serious condition. The truck driver stayed at the scene to answer police questions.

The unidentified officer was en route to provide backup for a fellow policeman at the time of the incident, said Monica Gutierrez, a Chino spokeswoman. As of late it is unclear who is at fault for the collision. California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the collision.
