Nowadays high school students have outstanding stats for colleges and at such a young age they receive outstanding awards or achievements. Taking part in competitions throughout your years demonstrates bravery. Therefore, you have a higher chance of being accepted into a top university such as Stanford, Harvard, MIT, and Princeton. Being involved with sports and clubs benefits your application as it shows you have great time management among other skill and traits universities look for. Teens either have no community hours or an abundant amount. Having hours will benefit one’s application by making you stand out. Having awards from your school will make you achieve that hard working portfolio. Colleges are in need of students who are hard working and are courageous students. They want their students to stand out and have something another persona doesn’t generally have. They want an astonishing essay.
Most high school students participate in clubs, having hours in clubs is beneficial socially, as well for one’s college application. Recommended clubs are Debate, Mathletes, and Journalism because in these clubs you can receive awards that can be added to their application. Demonstrating leadership and having courage to participate in tournaments. Being in a club isn’t an easy task, you have to be committed and put in all your effort. Even being a part of team sport also illustrates a great image. Being a part of a team can get you a scholarship or be a part of the reason you get accepted because they see involvement.
The only thing that can really set you apart from other participants trying to get into a top university is crazy achievements. Such as starting your own business or being a founder of an experiment. A anonymous student who attended Don Lugo last year exclaimed how the progress of applying was very overwhelming. Exceptionally because she is a first generation and didn’t know how to properly fill out the application. She was a part of the cheer team and felt as if she could have done more extracurricular classes. She wrote an essay about how COVID-19 impacted her school life. They took 3 AP’s throughout her high school years, English for senior and junior year, along with AP history junior year. She always maintained a passing grade in English, she saw that subject as an easy grade.
Often past students wish they had done more, such as sports, clubs, and taking Honors classes. So don’t be scared to get out of your comfort zone because it will benefit you in the near future.
