Waaaaa! Is that the sound of a new celebrity baby or fans who feel entitled to know about one? First time parents Halle Bailey (Mother) and DDG (Father) were forced to share the news of their newborn baby boy named Halo. On January 6th of this year, Halle took to Instagram with a photo of her, DDG, and Halo holding hands with a caption stating, “Even though we’re only a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me, was bring me my son.. Welcome to the world my halo, the world is desperate to meet you.” Not only was she presenting her baby but she added some shade in at the end. Unfortunately, the comments were not as accepting as predicted, but instead they were actually bashing her. Some of these comments include “Girl we already knew this,” “Now all y’all didn’t have to do all that lying,” “So you were pregnant and both you and Chloe lied I can’t…”. Amongst these were many more harsh comments bashing her on not telling the public about her pregnancy sooner. Brooke Graves, senior at Don Lugo says, “People were already speculating for a while that she was pregnant and Halle is facing a lot more A list reactions because of the limelight she’s in.” While it should be a happy truth that her career is currently very successful, it has turned into a negative experience because of all the focus on her pregnancy rather than the many accomplishments she has been achieving.
In this day and age, fans feel the need to know what’s going on in celebrity lives at all times, but celebrities shouldn’t have to be forced to answer or admit to personal matters even if the public is dying to know. The rallying pressure and hate Halle received was unfathomable. She had to take to social media on multiple accounts just to say something about the constant remarks made about her body when she wasn’t comfortable sharing her pregnancy. Now that she has made it public, she took to Snapchat to share her mom body goals and a well known Instagram account called “theshaderoom” posted about it. Many comments were to such a hateful degree saying things such as “[You] gaslit these folks for months saying people were desperate and liars… Now you wanna share stuff,” “Girl let us respect your privacy in peace please,” “You wanted us to not care about your life, pregnancy or child so don’t start now,” “I don’t want to hear about your journey,” and “Like why are you sharing this with us like this is a diary.” It is comments such as these that lead to celebrities going off social media even though they should be able to share what THEY want about their lives. The public is so upset that Halle didn’t want to share information about her pregnancy but because she does now, they feel empowered to make snarky comments on what she chooses to share.
