Yes, finals are stressful, but most of those who are stressed are seniors. That has to do with their ability to pass the class, and if you don’t pass the class, you either have to retake it or stay another year. Many people who have to retake a class feel embarrassed about it, and it’s the one thing seniors avoid, usually snapping them out of their ‘senioritis’.
When asked about finals, Samantha Konno says, “They’re super stressful, but there’s a lot I have to study so it all blends and that’s not good.” Konno has spent the semester doing little by little to get by, but getting the motivation to keep up and study and be ready for her final is hard. Having little to no motivation has become more common with students and they are suffering.
Sofia Woodward of the junior class stresses about her finals, but not in the same way. “If I fail one of my classes, I can always retake it in the summer so I don’t have to do it again next year as a senior.” She stresses, but she stresses less because there isn’t the stress at the fact that there is no “next year”.
On top of the stress of the possibility of failing a class, parents and the need to please them also take a toll on students. Many parents want the best for their children but don’t know how to express it, therefore it makes the child think that they’re not proud of what they can do. A lot of frantic studying comes from what our parents might think of us or react, what our punishment will be besides having to stay another year.
