Well Deserved Lunch Break

Daniel Pahutan, Photographer

I thought the irony behind a high school lunch lady taking a lunch break needed to be photographed. And because this lunch lady in particular was so friendly and approachable, I had to take her portrait. Since the background had nothing interesting to offer, I decided to stop down the aperture to a wide-open F1.8 to blur it all out. But since this picture was taken around mid-day, there was a lot of ambient light. This meant that without a low ISO rating and a high shutter speed, the picture would be over exposed. So I set the ISO to 400 and the shutter speed all the way up to 1/8,000 of a second. The extremely high shutter speed also ensured that there would be no loss in sharpness due to camera shake.
