38 years later; Lugo once again makes it to CIF Finals

Janessa Meza and John Aguire

Don Lugo’s last CIF championship game was on 1979 when we beat our opponent by a score of 27-24. Lugo has not gone to a CIF final for 38 years which could’ve marked history tonight with outstanding players and coaches.

Before the game began Don Lugo’s alumni that won the CIF championship in 1979 were welcomed onto the field, being announced as Don Lugo’s last champions since then. Leading onto the field some of the current football players that have put their full potential to every game. This season has consisted of 10 wins and 3 loses leading the players to CIF Finals 38 years later.

Don Lugo lost a terrible game against El Modena. Even though Don Lugo pushed through and gave it their all, unfortunately the Vanguards were a force to be reckoned with. El Modena made sure to be very challenging for Don Lugo which made them able to score 5 touchdowns.

I have full faith that Lugo can make it back to finals next year, Coach Gano is an amazing coach it only took him a year to get us where we landed last night.

The beginning of the game the first quarter started pointless with 0-0 on the score board until the second quarter came around and Modena advanced with a hard lead which made the score 14-0. Throughout the end of the second quarter Lugo remained without any points until the third quarter came around.

Modena came out strong once again scoring another following touchdown in the third quarter. Lugo did not give up and scored by a rushed touchdown at the end of the third quarter.

Toward the end of the game Lugo collapsed as Modena finished up the game strong. They began to rush yards and add onto two more touchdowns to finish up the game and clinch the championship. The rush of adrenaline in viewers was felt the week of the big game. After 38 years Don Lugo had made it to CIF finals again, but El Modena took the win with 36-7 naming themselves the CIF Champions.
