Seniors’ Dance Farewell

The dancers were filled with overwhelming emotions as they bowed on their last performance for the year of 2016. Upon walking on stage, some could hardly contain the tears, backed by smiles and mixed emotions. To top off the performance, the seniors bid farewell with a message to the underclassmen: “We love our National Champions. Carry on the legacy.”

With the year coming to an end, nerves and excitement bubbled within the dancers’ hearts as some of them stepped on stage for the last time, knowing this was a goodbye performance to the friendships they have cultivated throughout the years. With this show being the seniors’ last performance, each of them gave their all- showing full enthusiasm into every movement. After the show, senior class student and Dance Team member Brizhane Sam expressed, “All around, I was nervous and it didn’t hit me until the end. Watching the past years of seniors performing… it just really hit me.” I couldn’t wait to be immersed in what I could feel was going to be an emotional night.

The middle portion of the performance gave a little bit of everything. Moods were set by the ambiance from the lighting, topped off by the matching choreography and charisma of the dancers. It ranged from hip hop to classical dances performed by Dance Team, Hip Hop along with Dance Classes 1, 2, and 3.

One of the seniors’ final dances titled, “When we were young,” caused an emotional uproar within the audience, touching the hearts of many. Personally, I felt like I was a part of the Don Lugo Dance Team family when the dancers brought their parents on stage. The dance team seniors placed their jerseys on their parents backs in exchange for a graduation cap that signified their gratitude and farewell.

The crowd and performers were overcome by emotions; I even felt myself tearing up when the underclassmen exited the stage, leaving the seniors to perform their final dances. The enthusiasm was contagious and most of us in the audience felt like we were standingĀ alongside the dancers the whole night. They gave it their all, and their years of hard work and dedication definitely shined. I was honored to have been able to experience this momentous occasion with them.

Overall, the Dance Show was emotional and inspiring. When asked for words of wisdom for upcoming dancers, senior hip hop team member, Gilbert Cuellar shared, “For anyone thinking of joining, don’t be afraid. Have fun with it and don’t think you’re better because everyone is learning and getting something out of it. Always give positive vibes.” As seniors graduate, the underclassmen will take over the dance floor and chasse towards another successful year.
