Spotify confirms to have found malware in an advertisement after affected users complained via twitter.

A form of malware called “malvertising” was found during a search of Spotify’s system. Malvertising is any form of malicious-intended advertisement that takes control of computer functions. Spotify stated, “A small number of users have experienced problems with pop-ups in our free tier. We have identified and shut down the problem and will continue to monitor the situation.”

Spotify has blamed one ad for the “malvertising”, but is currently unable to be mentioned. For 70 million Spotify users, this is a concern of personal safety. This advertisement is affecting every platform from Mac, Linux, Windows, IOS and Android; it has been taken down and the creator is banned from advertising on Spotify.
