Jose Fernandez, pitcher of the Miami Marlins passed away due to a deadly boat accident. The 24 year old was found dead with two other victims. The accident on September 24 struck a jetty in Miami Beach.
One of the victims sister wishes she could of made them stay instead of letting them go out and fish. “It’s devastating to have lost one of the best pitchers in the MLB. Jose’s death is definitely a big loss in baseball.” Varsity pitcher, Joshua Ibarra comments. The Marlin pitcher’s legacy will live on, from receiving the 2013 MLB All Star Game to winning the National Rookie of the Month award.
The Marlins will pay their respect by wearing Jose’s jersey number against the New York Mets on September 26. “Its for sure going to be heartbreaking seeing the game without him pitch,” Varsity baseball player, Nolan Fernandez states. As of Monday, the Marlins declared that the number 16 will be retired for Jose’s honor.

He was a man that loved the game of baseball. Nothing but good stories said about him. Cared about all the fans and the players. Sad to see him go. #JF16
