National Honors Society Inducts 23 New Members

The National Honors Society (NHS) held their induction ceremony in the Don Lugo multipurpose room Monday evening. The induction ceremony inducted seven juniors and 16 sophomores. The inductees went through a candle lighting ceremony and recited the NHS pledge. It ended with the new members signing the NHS registry, receiving a pin and certificate, and the students being officially accepted.
For a sophomore to join NHS they need a 3.5 unweighted GPA and two or more honors or AP classes. A junior needs a 3.5 unweighted GPA and three or more honors or AP classes.
NHS is a national organization that promotes scholarship, leadership, service, and character in students that are excelling academically. The NHS was established in 1921 and according to www.nhs.us, it is estimated that 1 million students across the nation participate in NHS activities. A number of famous and successful people have been a part of NHS including NFL players, actors, musicians, astronauts, and neurosurgeons; now 23 new Lugo students are apart of this prestigious group of honorees.
