Student athletes Covid-19 update

As of January 12, 2021 CIF has come out with the new modifications to the Covid-19 education-based athletes guidelines. When fall sports was still in phase 1…  spring sports was then notified to then proceed with the start of their season as well. CIF also states that guidelines will be adjusted weekly. Any student-athlete that is known to have tested positive for Covid-19 is not to return to their practice until cleared by a physician or heath care professional. Schools must also continue to follow all guild lines given by their local county and governing board of their school district.

As a reminder CIF season 1 sports are from January to April, consisting of traditional competitive cheer, cross country, field hockey, football, gymnastics, skiing/snowboarding, girls volleyball, and water polo. And CIF season 2 sports are from March to June involving badminton, baseball, basketball, competitive cheer, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swim, tennis, track and field, boys volleyball, and wrestling.

Physical conditioning such as training, practice, and skill building may be done outside  with 6 feet of social/physical distancing and within separated team cohorts. This is currently being authorized for all sports no matter the county status. At the earliest, competition between two teams is not allowed in California until January 25, 2021. Once allowed to participate in competition, every school participating must be in the authorized tier status in order to compete.
