BREAKING NEWS: Chaparral Elementary Coronavirus scare
March 12, 2020
This morning, CVUSD Superintendent Norm Enfield sent an email out to parents and staff in the district about the district’s first situation with Coronavirus. Luckily, the actual illness is far removed from the schools. Just in case, the district’s plans were applied exactly as they said they would be.
Superintendent Enfield’s message to parents: “Yesterday evening, we learned that the spouse of one of our employees at Chaparral Elementary School came in contact with individuals at their place of employment who had previously come in contact with another individual who tested positive for COVID-19.” Following this discovery, the District Health Services team contacted the San Bernardino Department of Public Health, just as they said they would in a situation involving the Coronavirus.
The San Bernardino Department of Public Health let the district know that no drastic measures were necessary because the district employee was so far removed from anyone actually tested positive for the Coronavirus. Out of “an abundance of caution” once again, the district asked the employee to isolate themselves for 14 days, just to be sure that there is no danger of contamination of schools. The district ordered a deep cleaning and disinfecting of Chaparral Elementary School, to ensure no germs related to the situation in any way remained.
Enfield promises to parents and staff that instruction will continue as normal at Chaparral Elementary. He promises that the district considers the health and safety of students and staff as a top priority and that CVUSD members will continue to be updated in case of any more situations related to the Coronavirus. For now, students and staff can rest easy, because the district has the situation under control.
