Don Lugo’s girls volleyball team continues to blow the competition away. Most recently, they walked away with a 3-0 win against Diamond Bar, gaining a secured league title and a CIF playoff spot.

Last year the lady Conquistadors made it to the playoffs and came one round short of the finals. Lugo lost to San Dimas taking all 5 sets, San Dimas came from behind in the last set and won.

Marissa Martinez, a junior volleyball starter, was asked what the attitude was like for her and the team, she stated that “The attitude for CIF is to get the ring, work as a team, and support each other all the way through no matter what happens.” Marissa also agreed that the team plays with a chip on their shoulder coming up one round short of the finals last year, “We have to go in with the mindset of no mercy and go in all the way and play every play hard.”

Nicole Briggs, a junior volleyball starter as well, recently came back from injury last week against Diamond Bar is reported saying with passion,”My expectations for this year are very high, this year’s playoff run is looking much better,” she continues, “I believe as a team, we are more prepared going into CIF compared to last year.”

With a lot of starters returning, the team still remembers last year’s loss at CIF. This season, they already accomplished winning league, now to finish their mission they want to secure that ring.

Don Lugo’s first round opponent and game day is still being decided, as the season for other teams is still unfolding.  However, no matter who they face, our lady Conquistadors are optimistic about the upcoming challenges.
