Don Lugo has changed the tradition of homecoming by adding a king alongside the queen. For years, homecoming has only had females as part of the royal court. On October 15, Lugo welcomed its first king, Zachary Murray to the royal court.

“I think it’s fun we’re incorporating guys into our homecoming celebration. For a long time, it was just about the queen,” said Victoria Ferguson. Now guys will have a little more to look forward to.”

Lugo decided to add a king when male students started to request it. ASB President and Homecoming King nominee, Isaiah Ruiz, explained, “We noticed the trend of guys requesting there be a homecoming king, and we decided why not do it now?”

This year, Lugo students nominated Princes Isaiah Ruiz, Nolan Fernandez, Zachary Murray, Joe Talamontez and Nelson Escapade, but it was Zak Murray that went home from the dance with the new coveted title of Homecoming King. Leadership reported that the new tradition is one they plan to keep for years to come.
