Karly Ortiz, the editor-in-chief of Quest News, received a $15,000 scholarship from the University of La Verne. The University of La Verne is a private university and is a university composed of the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business and public Management, the LaFetra College of Education, College of Law, and a Regional Campus Administration that oversees seven regional campuses.

Karly Ortiz has been in Quest News for all four years of high school. As soon as she joined the class she excelled and has been a stand out writer for Quest news. Over the years, Karly has been promoted to editor after her first year in quest news, board manager the next year, and finally editor-in-chief in her senior year. On her path to success she has won nationals in her sophomore year and continuously uploaded stories to the LA Times.

Karly stated, “Yes, La Verne was one of the only campuses I felt comfortable when touring colleges, so it had been my top choice since sophomore year.” Although  The University of La Verne is the first college she has heard back from, the offer she has received surely is a hard one to turn down. She stated, “I think it’s most likely the college i’m going to attend, but we’ll see if anything changes.”

Receiving this scholarship is a true reflection of how hard she has worked and how all the hard work has come to pay off. When Karly applied to the University of La Verne she was not expecting much in scholarships or benefits. She stated,” I was in shock because I had been struggling pretty bad this year so I didn’t expect to even get accepted, much less receive a scholarship.”

Karly is planning to major in journalism to continue her passion and love for writing stories as she has for Quest News. She hopes to continue her success and work hard to achieve more as she sets out more ambitious goals for herself.
