Trump jokes take over the 2017 Emmys

The 2017 Emmys were filled with non stop Trump Jokes from Steven Colbert and Adam Baldwin. I get that Trump is the center of political comedy, but it's so overused and boring. Can't these comedians make jokes about something less serious? Photo from Public Domain.

This year’s Emmys feels like it was sorely focused on Trump. Typically, the Emmys are meant to award excellence in the television industry, but this year it seems that the Emmys made politics their focus. I get that Trumps antics are funny, but does he ALWAYS have to be the center of every joke?

Because of this ‘political Emmys’, shows like “Stranger Things” and “This is Us” did not receive the recognition they deserved, because of their lack of Trump jokes. Not only that, but this years rating was at its all time low. Political comedy has been used throughout Hollywood entertainment so often that it has become overbearing. I get it, Trump sucks, so why keep reminding me?

We aren’t the only ones that think this way. White House adviser, Kellyanne Conway had a strong opinion towards this years award show when she stated, “They got plucked and polished and waxed, and some of them didn’t eat for two months, and all for what? To sound the same?”

However you feel about the president — and you do feel about the president, you can’t deny that every show was influenced by Donald Trump in some way.”

— Steven Colbert

Trump jokes and political comedy is funny, but it gets boring when it’s the topic of everyone’s stand-up. I want to laugh at something that isn’t serious! I laugh at jokes based on politics, but then I get depressed because I know that there is realism behind the comedy.

However, some people, like former Emmy winner Jon Hamm, think the contrary, “The most diverse, most different, most interesting Emmy show I’ve ever seen.” Yeah, this years show was indeed different, but not necessarily in a good way. It seems that politics are just about everywhere these days, now making an appearance in shows, movies and overall entertainment.

There has been many different stances toward this years ‘political’ Emmys. Honestly, it was funny the first few minutes, but a person can only take so many Trump jokes. They are becoming annoying and way overused.
