Nintendo’s highly anticipated new gaming system will be released for purchase in just a few days! The company announced the ‘Nintendo Switch’ back in October of 2016, creating huge talk among fanatics at Don Lugo and around the gaming world. Fans may finally experience the Nintendo Switch for themselves beginning March 3rd when it becomes available for purchase with a price beginning at $299.

What brings the greatest appeal to the Nintendo Switch is its Joy-Con controllers, which allow players to swap between three modes of utilizing the console. Many have dared to brand the Nintendo Switch as ‘evolutionary’ since the creators have promised a device that offers the flexibility of a handheld while maintaining the comfort of a living room console through these Joy-Con controllers. Although it is not the first time Nintendo presents individual controllers, (think of the Wii) the Nintendo Switch allows users to go back into the past by turning their device into a portable console similar to the Game Boy.

Nintendo also continues pushing boundaries by moving on from games stored in discs to games contained in small game cards similar to those of the 3DS. As of late 2016, Nintendo reports over 61 million ‘3DS’ consoles sold worldwide which may be explained by the innovative aspect brought by the game cards when they were first announced. The Nintendo Switch may have equal if not greater success for the same innovative aspect it will bring to the table.

A Don Lugo senior, Nathan Mena, shares his excitement for the Nintendo Switch exclaiming, “I have been a fan of Nintendo products since I was a kid so I feel very excited for the Nintendo Switch [similarly to] when I got my first Game Boy.” Like many others, Mena has been working hard to save up his coins in preparation of the upcoming release. The wait for fans – and skeptics – will be over on Friday for which Nintendo can look forward to loyal fans at Don Lugo to make the switch.
